Projects

NEPIC are currently involved in a number of projects, two of which are ENBBIO (Environmental and Nutritional Benefits of Bioethanol co-products) and the Grower Network Initiative.

ENBBIO is a multidisciplinary, collaborative project under the LINK scheme. The project is industry-led, but with Government sponsorship. The overall aim is to improve the value to the animal feed and food sectors of co-products from the production of bioethanol. ENBBIO - improving the value to the animal feed and food sectors of co-products from bioethanol production.

The aims and objectives of the Grower Network are to:

  • To promote biofuels and renewable energy within the local farming community and farming industry
  • Encourage growers to grow oilseed rape for the local biodiesel industry and high starch wheat for bioethanol
  • Promote agronomic techniques that will result in higher yielding crops and therefore higher financial returns for the grower
  • Allow growers to visit a physical trial site to see for themselves the progress of the trial crops through the season
